Christophe Dillinger

Screen printing is traditionally a precise graphic technique. I am not particularly drawn to precision. I much prefer leaving room for chance and accident because art, like life, is not precise. Life is messy, it goes in every direction, and events do not overlap with millimeter accuracy. Even habits change, infinitesimally, from one day to the next.

My work as a screen printer is like that. The corners do not always touch, the colors are layered on top of each other in ways that are sometimes shaky, and the patterns multiply but are never exactly the same. The ink is spread with sponges, torn pieces of paper serve as stencils, and overlays are created with a brush; nothing is truly sharp or absolute.

These prints are abstract. A few are minimally figurative: one might almost get the impression that they mean something. Their design is not based on meaning, however, but on beauty. On their solid base, they look a bit like graffiti, portions of mosaics, or pieces of life devoid of context.

Authentic numbered and signed silkscreen print - Handmade A3 poster

Original A3 screen print.
