Claire Schott Ceramicist

I draw inspiration for the pieces I design from the mineral or organic world. Working with the material guides me toward the form: seeking the smooth texture of a pebble or the raw, rugged surface of a rock. To achieve this, I work, deform, remove, or add clay by hand or with tools.

For me, glazes are also a material in their own right that becomes one with the form and gives it meaning. Reflecting natural elements, the ones I create are smooth white, downy beige, slightly granular, soft and powdery, speckled green, or subtle black.

From this exploration, the "Floraison minérale" (Mineral Bloom) collection was born, a set of ceramics for the table: different, random, unique pieces that can be matched or mismatched to make them converse with one another.

Setting these plates thus becomes a reflection of what a dinner gathering is: a collection of different people sharing a harmonious moment of conviviality, pleasure, and gastronomy.

When I was a child, my grandmother owned a multitude of mismatched plates. The times I was in charge of setting the table, I remember that I made it a point to choose a specific plate for each guest, imagining how each one told a little bit of their personality.

This imagination surrounding objects has never left me.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0628/0567/2141/collections/claire-schott-c-ramiste-collection-image-ukb3rz.png?v=1788877885
