Paloma Defert Studio

Paloma Defert is a designer and metal sculptor.

In her Parisian studio, she works with metal, combining it with glass or clay. She reinvents material pairings to create unique interior design pieces.

From a very young age, she was interested in the transformation of matter. At 15, she joined the École Boulle, earning a CAP and then a BMA in jewelry and goldsmithing arts. During these four years, she completed internships at major jewelry houses. Upon completing her training, she shifted toward a more contemporary approach to materials while changing scale. It was then that she naturally turned to the DNMADE Metal program at Ensaama, Olivier de Serres.

Since then, she has been creating wire-based pieces, drawing on the verticality of lines and movement. For her, working with materials is like drawing in the air. She is driven by a desire to shed the superfluous to keep only the essential—the lines and curves. She loves the feeling of freedom she gets when a highly graphic design brings her pieces to life. Her works, large in scale yet lightweight, appearing static but swaying in the air, reveal themselves to be both fragile and powerful.
