Prisca Randriana

The rock faces of the Vercors massif overlook the Drôme valley where I am based. My studio work stems from a fascination with geology as a memorial trace of accumulations and transformations, of slow and inexorable erosion. I translate this fascination through the use of the natural degradation of rocks—clays, ochres, and sands gathered in my environment—as basic studio materials. The clay collected in my village, mixed with feldspathic rocks and silica, forms the base of the slips I use, rendered in multiple variations. From this patient research work emerge pieces with bold contrasts, raw and delicate, organic and sophisticated.
