AURORE CHESSERET

Annabelle Mai - Artiste Illustratrice

" Artistic practice is a means of expression like no other. Beyond the decorative aspect, art carries meaning and messages. My fulfillment comes from being able to convey a vision that is both realistic and poetic of what surrounds us. "

Aurore shares her journey with us, leading to the realization that her true place was in artistic creation.

Tell us your story, how did you find your calling?

Time and experience gradually led me to the realization and the decision that my true place was in artistic creation.
I remember overflowing with imagination as a child, and that creative fire has never really left me. I studied architecture, which was rich and fascinating; it was through this, in particular, that I explored different types of art: painting, drawing, modeling, photography, writing…
Once I became an architect and after several years in various agencies abroad, I quickly felt trapped; I thirsted for freedom and creation. I was already painting a little. The decision to make a living from my art took time to emerge. First exhibitions, a lifestyle change in Provence, a space to create, and of course the joy of waking up every morning fueled my decision.

How would you describe your style and your artistic approach in a few words?

My artistic work explores our profound essence, which is intimately linked to Nature, as well as the relationship we maintain with It. The various collections I present are structured around this theme. Each creation is composed of noble and natural materials, both in terms of the surfaces (linen or hemp fabric, handmade cotton and linen paper) and the mediums (natural inks and pigments).

What themes or subjects inspire you the most in your work?

Our relationship with the Earth, our roots and origins linked to the living world.

How do you work?

I am fortunate to have a studio to work in, where I exhibit my art and also welcome the public for visits or intuitive painting workshops.

I often work on different collections whose themes are very similar or overlap. I do a lot of reading and writing beforehand on the subjects I want to explore. It is important for me to have theoretical foundations and references because my working method is both spontaneous and conceptual.

Do you have a particular technique, a specific expertise? Without revealing all your secrets, have you developed your own methods and techniques?

I use materials from the plant or mineral world as much as possible, whether for the supports or the mediums. This is consistent with the subjects I address.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

Creation is an integral part of who I am; not being able to experience it, which I do through my art, would feel like an amputation. An artist's mind is always bubbling, with ideas that sometimes come to fruition, while others die away. It is a daily routine of ups and downs, motivation and doubts, joys and anxieties. All of this is experienced with raw sensitivity, because what an artist produces is a piece of themselves that they are offering.

A message to convey, anything else you would like to share?

Art is essential to humanity; it constitutes a part of us that elevates us. The very diverse emotions it evokes are all signs that we are truly alive and free.
