DIANE PAINSON

ILLUSTRATOR & restorer RENNES (35)

Diane shares her passion for drawing with us, and the way she "captures on paper, in a metaphorical way," the ideas and values that drive her.

Tell us your story, how did you find your calling?

I have been drawing since I was a child; it came quite naturally. I started by drawing, then painting and sculpting. But I returned to my first love a few years ago: illustration. As for furniture, I have always loved the idea of giving a second life to objects considered old-fashioned, and elevating what seems decrepit.

How would you describe your style and your artistic approach in a few words?

My style oscillates between the dreamlike and the surreal. I also enjoy capturing, in a metaphorical way on paper, the ideas and values that drive me.

What themes or subjects inspire you the most in your work?

The world of imagination, esotericism, and feminist themes are at the center of my creations.

How do you work?

Mainly at home or in the studio, depending on the work to be done. Always with good music in my ears!

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

The profession of an artist is truly enriching on a daily basis, but one must not idealize what is often romanticized. It is a life choice strewn with sacrifices and hard work. One must be aware of this when starting out. There are as many joys as there are disappointments. As many rejections as there are successes and inspiring projects! It is a profession where the watchwords are passion and tenacity!

A message to convey, anything else you would like to share?

Art is a solitary act that gains significance when shared!
