" Many of my paintings are 'palimpsests': I paint over old canvases, which may retain certain traces, and that is what makes them so rich. "

MARIE RÉGY

visual artist & photographer, Mazamet (81)

Marie Régy shares her eclectic world with us, in a state of perpetual experimentation.

Tell us your story, how did you find your calling?

I completed one year of study at a fine arts school, followed by a curriculum in applied arts (BTS and Bachelor's degree).
Since then, I have painted sporadically (I mainly focused on photography and ceramics), but during the lockdown, I took up my brushes again much more intensely.
I am influenced by De Staël, Fautrier, Pollock, Warhol, and many others, some more famous than others...

How would you describe your style and your artistic approach in a few words?

I love color and texture, but I cannot limit myself to one style; I am in perpetual experimentation. Many of my paintings are "Palimpsests": I repaint over old canvases, they may retain certain traces of them, and that is what makes them rich.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

Architecture and portraits for digital art. My paintings are often abstract, inspired by a detail, some pattern, or whatever surrounds me when I paint (often outside in my garden).

How do you work?

I paint in my small office, but when the weather permits, I set up outside in my garden. I work on the backgrounds of large formats in several layers with a spatula, then I work with a brush, mostly using juxtaposed strokes. But this can vary, as I like to change techniques depending on the format and my mood.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

I divide my time between teaching applied arts, working as a freelance graphic designer, and pursuing my practice as a visual artist.

A message to convey, anything else you would like to share?

I hope my eclectic universe will win you over...
