Heading off to celebrate the New Year deep in a magical, secret, snow-covered valley not far from Prades, I returned with rare wood species from the mountains. Over there, they had time to grow so slowly, at the pace of often harsh seasons.
No human threat, a protected forest area. Just time ahead of them to flourish serenely.
I was lucky enough to come back with a few pieces of hazelwood, initially destined for firewood. Trunks with a surprisingly large diameter!
I turned it quickly upon returning to the workshop, while still green.
And I discovered its sweet scent, its delicate hues, reminiscent of certain fruit trees, also in its grain.
A pleasure to work with.
You can also see a slight difference in shades, with the sapwood being slightly lighter.
There are some trees whose path we do not often cross; working with them and the final result are all the more touching and precious.
