TENSION _ The inhabited void
Description
Original sculpture - French craftsmanship
A turned mulberry wood sculpture.
The piece was fashioned from green wood on a traditional lathe.
The drying process then continued the work.
The shape slowly shifted.
Revealed.
Opened.
This natural deformation has become the focus of the piece:
an irregular, almost accidental opening, as if the void had taken its place within the material.
The whitened surface intentionally obscures the reading of the wood.
The grain partially disappears beneath a matte, mineral-like skin.
The gaze hesitates.
Wood, stone, ceramic, bone.
The tension is not spectacular.
It remains internal, silent, contained.
The object seeks neither symmetry nor perfection.
It preserves the traces of time, of shrinkage, of transformation.
A calm volume, inhabited by what is missing.
⸻
Why "Tension"
The surface intentionally erases the usual markers of wood.
The material seems to move toward another choice:
a more muted, more mineral, almost ambiguous substance.
This tension is born from perceptual confusion:
between flexibility and rigidity,
between a turned object and a sculpted fragment,
between solid presence and interior hollow.
Here, the tension is not in the movement.
It is restrained.
