KALI CERAMIST DESIGNER

Ceramicist, Hossegor (40)

Karine shares her story with us, and how life led her to turn to her passion, ceramics

Tell us your story, how did you find your calling?

As a child, I dreamed of going to art school, but the artistic world was light-years away from my own.
Everything about art interested me, and I tried my hand at many different areas as an amateur.
I became (among other things) an interior designer
Then one day, illness reared its head, and I ended up on disability.
Having always had the idea of trying ceramics, it was the perfect moment for me!
I have been training myself at home for a year and a half.
I watched a lot of reels on Instagram, bought my first blocks of clay, and off I went!

How would you describe your style and your artistic approach in a few words?

I love round shapes and large pieces.
The lighting fixture draws me in particularly, and the sculpture as well

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

Nature, Woman

How do you work?

I have transformed my garage into a studio. I worked with earthenware, then chamotte earthenware, and today I work with chamotte stoneware.
I only work using the coil technique and I do not produce in series.
Each piece is unique; that is important to me.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

My illness, rheumatoid arthritis, is sometimes very painful; becoming a ceramicist is also, beyond the passion, a way to keep control over my joints

A message to convey, anything else you would like to share?

Always believe in your dreams!
